Introduction

• Thermodynamics includes the study of different forms of energy and energy transformations, most commonly heat into work and work into heat.
• The laws of thermodynamics apply only when a system is in equilibrium or moves from one equilibrium state to another equilibrium state.
• The branch of thermodynamics that deals with studying chemical changes and chemical substances only is called chemical thermodynamics.
